Through zine-making, self-portraiture, and cultural documentation, ink treads the space between and beyond knowing and being, discomfort and peace, women and men, science and Spirit. This image was specifically created for the first personal issue of widely distributed NONBINARY Zine (a series of works by and for nonbinary people started by Theo and j. that began in a queer studies class in 2016).

Describing themself as a “s/heborg” at the time, ink understands gender as an evolving amalgamation of ancestry, memory, and admiration: an embodied archive of women and the men they created, artists, and visionaries who shaped their understanding of self. The work embraces the beauty of existing beyond binaries while confronting the alienation produced by societal scripts.
