How I Serve

Moving Toward Major Change?
Work with j. nyla mcneill

  • j. nyla sits in the middle of a panel with their colleagues from various organizations, including the City of Long Beach's Office of Youth Development, for a lived expertise panel on navigating mental health services and issues as youth.

    Community Design and Creative Collaborations

    People work better together.

Your community has ideas and momentum, but may need a touch of grounding, practical, and creative organizational support.

    j. nyla stewards the development of value-aligned connection, role creation, and “niche-ing down” for individuals and groups serving their people.

Don’t struggle with planning and implementing projects and events: bring on a dreamer and do-er to stay accountable to community visions; co-design materials with concrete, live creative direction; integrating folx’s ideas, findings, and goals toward a collective vision.

  • j. nyla facilitates an orientation on communty participatory budgeting for the Youth Power Participatory Budgeting system in the City of Long Beach. They stand masked at a podium while an introductory video plays.

    Education and Facilitation

Young, Black, Brown, disabled, neurodivergent, LGBTQIA2SP+, and systems-impacted voices matter. We need space to process harm, build, learn from each other, and heal.

    j. and offers training and delivery of Transformative Justice circles as a means of both education and as a participatory research method, creating space and change through collective dialogue, peer support, and care.

In addition, j. holds workshops on topics ranging from: media literacy, leveraging tech, strengthening mental health, LGBTQIA2SP+ healthcare, and more.

  • Speaking Engagements and Spoken Word

    j. is a poet, first and foremost.

Storytelling via free verse and spoken word performance is a powerful tool in affecting change.

From plenary performances to featured artist opportunities, j. nyla offers artful public speaking on what feels alive in the spirit of causes that connect people back to their personhood.
